The Leavenworth VA Hospital Fire Department was created in 1948 after World War II. Currently we have 11 paid firefighters, 3 captains, and one cheif. We have 2 pumper trucks and a ambulance. Our coverage area is 10 sq. miles, covering the leavenworth national cemetary, Veterains hospital, and 91 buildings and many of them being Historical. Since the history of the dept, we have had very few major fires due to agressive education and prevention programs. We have a mutual aid agreement with Fort Leavenworth Fire Department to respond to any major structurial fires.
